The need for quality professional development of school leaders was demonstrated in the responses to a statewide survey conducted by NYSSAC (New York State Supervisors and Administrators Consortium, a consortium of NYSFSA and SAANYS) in 2013. A white paper was written to published the results of the survey and current research. This report was entitled Meeting The Needs And Facing The Challenges and it advocated for funding to achieve this task. It emphasized a need for professional development by school leaders by school leaders, a practitioners' approach. The NYSSAC report was distributed to state elected officials, the Board of Regents and the NYSED. This need was continuously stated at all meetings with these state officials. NYSFSA's largest local, the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA) benefited from an state allocation in the 2015 budget for four hundred seventy thousand dollars for their professional development unit, the Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) .In December, 2014, SAANYS received a five hundred thousand dollar grant to its professional development liaison ,the Magellan Foundation .NYSFSA and its locals will be assisting Magellan in providing workshops and institutes around the state .The first institute is scheduled for July 14 to 16 this summer at Fordham Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Additional workshops are scheduled for Rochester on 7/13 and 7/14 and in Albany on 7/15 and 7/16. In late July, there is an Institute scheduled at the Nassau BOCES on7/28 and 7/29.
